As you can understand from the sign above, Paros island is one of the top destinations in Greece for water sports. Especially windsurfers and kite surfers visit Paros by the thousands every year. This is a result of unique wind conditions which are created on the west and east coast of the island. Northern winds in Aegean Sea create a tunnel between Paros and Antiparos island on the west coast. The same phenomenon occurs on the east coast, between Paros and Naxos island. Inside the tunnel there is a strong and stable wind without many gusts. This favors everyone who loves windsurfing and kite surfing.
There are two locations more popular than any other in Paros. On the west coast there is Paros Kite Beach. On the east coast, Golden Beach.
Paros Kite Beach is situated few hundred meters south of Punda port. This is the location from where you take a small ferry to get to Antiparos island. The scenery on this beach can be spectacular, especially during high season. The sky is covered with kites and the sea with colourful surfs. One the beach you will find water sport center, probably the best organized in Cyclades. You can rent equipment here, take lessons with professional teacher or just start having fun with your own windsurf or kite surf.
Golden Beach on the east coast of Paros is also on windsurfer’s list. This is the place where World Championship in windsurfing took place. If you are an amateur, this is the place to start as the “traffic” in the sea is not that dens. There is a water sport center where you can rent equipment and take lessons. You should also know that the beach is well organized with beach bar, sunbeds and umbrellas. It is one of the popular beaches in Paros.
